I have a calf that I've observed chewing on wood then chain. I'm starting to wonder if she's lacking something. So, where's a good place to start with a general mineral feed? She's not real wild about getting in and pushing, kind of timid, so if mom eats it will she get it through milk?

Cattle should have free choice so she shouldn't have to get in and push.

I find by the time the calves are a couple of months old they find the mineral feeder as a gathering social point, a bit like a water cooler in an office, so they stick their noses in it out of curiosity and are hooked.
