What do you know about mineral deficiencies? We had several cows, only, "go down" with this. A costly shot from the vet revived them. They are a herd of Charolais fed in winter and always on a plush fertilized coastal pasture, which is never overgrazed.. There is also mineral available to the cattle from Nutrena. (The kind that matches the color of the season.) Since this we are using a very costly mineral that a vet mixes and sells.. Are Charolais more prone to this than other breeds? Is there a certain type of mineral or fertilizer that should be added to the pasture in the spring? Or, is there a cheaper mineral? Just wondering what others know about this. MW

Lush pasture doesn't mean diddly. If tyhey are too fast growing you can have magnesium deficiency. If there are minerals lacking in your soil, some places have a selenium deficiency, that can cause problems. You need to know what they are deficicient in. Ask your vet. He may be formulating a mineral supplement that takes into account what is lacking in your soil. Ask your feed dealer, one size does not fit all. They minerals we use in this part of MO are different then those we used in CA.
