I have just purchased a Miller BlueStar 2E welder from my father-in-law, not sure of the year model, but it's probably 15+ years old. Anyway, the machine runs and welds fine; however, it has developed a problem of not idling down after you stop welding. The only way to make it idle down is to flip the switch from 'On' to 'Off' and back to 'On' again. I normally run with the auto-idle switch in the 'On' position, but it seems to have quit working unless you toggle it.

I don't think it's the switch or wiring, but maybe a problem with the solenoid on the back beside the engine. I'm just guessing though!

Any ideas on fixing this or has anyone else had a similiar experience?

I've laid gazillions of welds, but almost always in a shop environment with electric, not with gasoline power. Don't know too much about that type of machine.

can you hear the the sloenoid clicking when you flip the toggle? I would soak the solenoid with W-D-40. Sounds like it may be a little sticky. Hope this helps!
