I need some help in identifing a problem with a cows bag. Two weeks before calf was born her bag got very large, when the calf was born it couldn't suck because of size. I put her in shute and milked her, gave the milk to calf, the milk looked good, but one side had a lot more milk than the other. The next day I had to do it again, milk still looked good. Third day (Sunday) she was lying down and wouldn't get up, I milked one side with her lying down, and feed the calf, the other side was cold to touch and was clear like water. I had a treatment for mistitus vet. said to use it and he might come out on Monday. She died that night. My Question is how to tell mistitus from milk fever and what if any are the treatments Vets. don't like to treat large animals in this part of the country, we have to try and do it ourselves.
She was a beef cow[ w/face] and I don't use chicken litter.

When the milk got clear or gets a brownish color the cow has
toxic mastitis and the best thing to do is cut the quarter off so
all the bad milk and crude that the cow will get after can keep
draining out and then I give them penincillin for about 5 days.
The cow might even loose all her hair afterwords.
