Lower milk prices seen
Milk prices will be lower this year than they were in 2007, says Bob Cropp, professor emeritus and dairy economist at the University of Wisconsin. The all-milk price will average around $16.95 per hundredweight, or about $2.15 lower than 2007, he says in this month’s issue of Dairy Herd Management.

Actually that would be about $5 less per cwt, and yet everything will still be high in the stores, milk, icecream, cheese, etc.. Something fishy there I think!

Even a $16.95 average for 12 months is pretty good. That would mean '07 averaged $19.10. That has to be a record. But true nothing related to a dairy operation is going down except net income and the bank account. Some of the "high powered" operators are dealing in milk futures to at least guarantee their milk prices. '08 will make even the best managers look bad.
