Yall see whats going on at the Texas/Mexico border??? It's not on the "news". Remember,Perry wants the TransTexascorridor to run from Larado to Canada.. And he wants to be your president.... Where do I think the funding for this hiway is really comeing from?? I can't say. Really,I can't.. I probily won't be here for the next election,but remember this mans record..and what'shappening on the border.

I haven't seen anything recently, but then I haven't been keeping up with the news, lately, at least the TX news. I will say Rick Perry is not my pick for anything, much less President, and I think he bears some close scrutiny with anything he's backing or proposing. Thanks for the head's up!

I go to school with some guys from Laredo. They usually stay up here or go to San Antonio for the summer. Their opinion is who would ever want to go to Laredo. Drugs have taken that place over.

Where is the money going to come from? I always found its best to follow the money and find out who this is going to benefit. Since this corridor is going to take a mere 585,000 acres from ranchers in Texas - I doubt its them. I'm told the councilman in Kansas City voted to build a $3M Mexican Customs Office and give it to the Mexican gov't. No need in stopping at the border to be checked. And afterall, letting the mexican's police their own imports into this country sounds like good business sense doesn't it? While I'm sure these councilmen will benefit in some manner, they are shifting the bill on the KC taxpayers and I doubt they can flip the whole bill themselves for the corridor construction. So it can't be them either. The idea of bypassing the american teamsters union and the long shoreman's union when inporting goods into the country would definitely save someone a lot of money. Given the fact that China is investing lots of money in deep water ports in Mexico and the fact that they are planning on widening the Panama Canal so mega-ships will be able to easily pass into the gulf of Mexico then one might think that China was somehow involved. But then again, I doubt China would be willing to pay for the construction of the corridor. Since this corridor is going to open Canadian markets to the wonderful benefits of cheap inports, I wonder if it not them? Probably not. My suspicion is that China will loan us the knife to cut our own throats with and then charge us interest and wear and tear. But I'm probably just paranoid from huffing blue paint. :cowboy:

The transTexas corridor idea falls under the same category as Alaska's bridge to nowhere- it is profoundly unnecessary. There is already in place a labyrinthine maze of roads leading from the border of Mexico to all points north.

In 1984, Perry was elected to the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat from a district (64) that included his home county of Haskell.

In 1990, he challenged incumbent Democratic Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower. Hightower had worked on behalf of Jesse Jackson for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988, while Perry had supported U.S. Senator Al Gore of Tennessee. Perry narrowly unseated Hightower, even as the Republican gubernatorial candidate, Clayton Williams, went down to defeat at the hands of Ann Richards.

In 1998, Perry chose not to seek a third term as Agriculture Commissioner, but instead ran for lieutenant governor to succeed the retiring Democrat Bob Bullock (By now he had switch party affiliation)

You have to understand, many of the Texas "Republicans" were once Democrats. At one time it was easier to win a spot on the ballot as a Republican since that spot was often vacant. Changing parties was not necessarily based on ideals but rather by the odds of winning an election.

I won't comment on the tran-Texas corridor. I think it is a local issue in Texas and my opinion doesn't count.
Interstate 69 is the Indiana part of this. I-69 currently runs from Detroit to Indianapolis. Plans are to run it to Evansville, where it can hook into I-64, which runs to St. Louis. It is highly controversial, but likely will be rammed through. Most people like another road. Towns tend to do well around interstates.

Canada and Mexico are our biggest trading partners. USA economy did VERY well in the era where we were building first railroads and then the Interstate highways, facilitating trade among states.

As we trade more we become more alike. The US and Canada, while not in lock step, are certainly of one mind on many things. We fuss about timber and beef and such, but it is "in the family", I sense.
Mexico is a little different. I sure would like to see a government down there which had better people than the drug cartels have, including weapons and tactics. I'm afraid that is a dream.
I just hope we don't end up with a Castro or Chavez in power.

As Ronald Reagan said the Democraric Party left me not the other way around.
Texas was mainly Blue Dog conservative democrats. The democrats postions on God, marriage, abortion, spending and the second admendment is what has lost them the south.
A democrat of my youth would be called a Republican today that is how far left the countries views have slid.
The true Demoratic or Republican party no longer exsist in this country it has turned to a pit of vipers called Congress and the Senate run by special intrest groups. Terrorism is our second greatest treat to our freedom the house of reprsentatives and the senate are number one.
Look up HB 45 if you want an eye opener as it will make most Americans criminals.
In my lifetime I have not ever seen the country as divided as we are today the Republic which I love is on a dangerous path of destruction to satisfy special intrest groups. Again in my lifetime I hae not seen a really bad president the Congress who writes the laws has stunk so bad it would knock a buzzard off a gut wagon. Just look at the bunch of thieves that had there hands in the housing mess. America was founded on God, Country, Family, and our inalienable Rights. We have lost our compass and bearing of being a compassonate people taking care of business and being accountable for our own actions.

Peg, when it could be afforded, I used to love to vacation in Mexico...especially Cozumel. Sad, sad state of affairs in Mexico...and our border towns, Jeez Louise! Talk about war zones.
