Max age/weight to castrate

Greetings. I was just wondering what the recommended or generally accepted weight to castrate a bull calf was. I used to do week old banding solely and still do for the most part. Cutting has never been a choice thing for me; it is just to messy and invites infection. Although when I would miss a calf I would cut. Now with the calrete bander I can band up to weaning. What would be the max age/weight for this banding process? Just curious.

We had the vet band a 750 pound short yearling, no problems. But it did take 6 months for the scrotum to fall off even though it was dried and withered after only a couple of weeks

I used to recieve cattle for an order buyer.I have cut 800-1000 weight bulls for days on end and never remember losing a single calf. After a while it became routine but never a fun job.I was trained to use the razor I have never used the band.Defenitely the smaller the better though in my opinion.
