Mastitis in heifer calf

Help Support CattleToday:

if you can milk anything out of it, do so... clean the teat end and infuse with a dry cow mastitis treatment.
Your choice of systemic antibiotics; may or may not help, but can't hurt.
Stop the nursing. Isolate or sell the offending calves.

X2 what lucky_p said. Have some dairyman regularly using dry cow mastitis treatment on heifers. Figure out who is doing it and SHIP ..... I would use Excenel rather than LA 200 because that is what we usually go to for the dairy animals right off.

X2. Actually had a case similar to this recently. I milked her out (she is extremely tame) and gave it a try and she came through and is raising an excellent heifer calf this year.
