We are thinking of using various colors of marking paint to make it easier to identify which cow is in heat from a distance. Does anyone have knowledge of whether plain old Seymour (or equivalent) marking paint is safe for cows skin? Like the stuff construction and surveyor folks use. I know you can buy the stuff labeled as for livestock, but it is about 2x the price. thoughts? Thanks!

I wouldn't use anything that was not labeled for animals.
Can you use just numbers? Paint or glue on? The ones for team penning/sorting competitions are quit large.

Never used paint on cows just check there tag numbers. I have used lots of paint while working sheep. The kind made for livestock is more money but it works 10 times better than just regulare spray paint. I get mine from valley vet. I have used regular spray paint before when I have ran out of livestock paint and it didn't have any bad effects.

Seymour is water base so it should be fine.
Might I suggest using Prima neon green, or blue. That stuff shows up real good.

I still use an assorted box of marking chalk....when I sync a group I color code each group....a mix of colors and different lines can give individual id...
