JSCattle, You did better than I did.

BigBull, I have been culling all year. The only culls I have left are ones that I can make money on - things like - sell your nurse cow for next to nothing or make money or her.

I am already down to 50 head. Was going to go a little lower but think I am going to sit tight.

Bear in mind that the market has been really good all year. Most of the time I have been getting way more that what I thought was fair. This is the first time I have taken a hit.

Tulia Livestock Auction Inc - Tulia, TX
Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for Thursday - 09/15/2011

Cattle and Calves: 2103 Week Ago: 1992 Year Ago: 3398

******************************************************************************
Due to Texas Department of Agriculture and Texas Livestock Market News Program
budget cuts the following report will now be compiled and released by the USDA
Livestock Market News.
******************************************************************************

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 3.00-5.00 higher, with 650-700 lb
yearlings averaging 6.00 higher. Feeder heifers steady to 2.00 lower where
comparable sales were noted. Slaughter cows 4.00-5.00 lower. Limited test on
slaughter bulls. Trade and demand moderate to good. Although cooler
temperatures and minimal rainfall was recorded this week in the Panhandle,
pasture conditions continue to diminish and feed costs continue to rise. As a
result, producers have been forced to continue culling deeper into their herds.
This has caused slaughter cow numbers to increase by 26% compared to this time a
year ago in the southern regions according to the Livestock Marketing
Information Center. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 15 percent of the
offering, replacement cows less than 1 percent and feeders 84 percent. The
feeder supply included 61 percent steers, 1 percent bulls, and 38 percent
heifers. Near 40 percent of the run weighed over 600 lbs.
