Market still high

I watched 60 steers sell yesterday. Long time weaned with 3 rounds of shots. Weighed 750 and sold for $3.05.

I see April futures on fat cattle is at $2.09. June is at $2.05

Fat cattle futures closed yesterday at $2.10. It is down some today at a little over $2.08 but that is still plenty high. If the big boys can lock in something over $2.00 they can afford to pay a bunch for feeders.

Yesterday they didn't have squat for feeder calves. 10-12 full mouth pairs for $3,000 -$3,300.
I took a couple old cows who lost their calves. I got $1.31 & $1.34. Real top notch kill cows were up to$1.50. Lots of high $1.40's

Today is the regular sale here at the one market. Will see what prices are doing. Stock Market took a hit yesterday with the tariff announcements; whether it affects the cattle market is to be seen but I am thinking not so much. 2 other countries have already asked about removing tariffs if they remove theirs so it might work out okay....
Delivered 6 heifers yesterday, to the buyer of the 9 of ours 2 weeks ago at the stockyard sale......he had said if we had more then to let him know...so we went through and pulled out the rest that did not fit on the trailer that day... they were heavier than the 700lb ones he got... these were 810 or so... over $2050 head average... he plans to put them with a bull in June for spring calves next year... No commission these 6..... and he wants us to call him when we have more to sell...said he really likes that they are quiet and easy to work around...

high pairs here the last few days have been 4,700 - 4,800
That is higher than we have been the last few weeks. There was several in the $4,750 range with a high of $5,500!in late February. With the fires and drought demand here had decreased. Expect with the rain we received too see the demand and price to increase. Although it will be at least two weeks before the burned grass should be turned on. We plan to wait 3-4 weeks. Some who were trying too sell privately have consigned theirs too special sales now. One local group sales today.

You get to turnout on burnt grass in 3-4 weeks! The BLM isn't letting people turn out on the burn until fall of 2026 or maybe spring of 2027.

All of this grass is privately owned. No BLM. Each pasture is different. How much of it burned is a determining factor. Also some have been back on since a few days after as they have no where to hold them. They feed hay and cake every day. The grass has greened up and needs growth now. Two of our pastures was 90-100% burned. One about 33%. We could turn out on it. Need too rebuild fence on it.

My deeded ground that burned July 17 has turned green but it is less than 2 inches tall. I haven't wandered up to the BLM. The BLM behind me is a lot higher elevation. The shaded spots and north slopes still have snow on them.
