I posted the thread a few weeks ago in the Show forum but I know most of you don't go in there. So I thought I would post it in here. My uni raises and exhibits cattle in a hoof and hook competition which obviously has 2 parts. Judging on hoof and then the animal is auctioned off and judged as a carcass. The heifer myself and a couple of other girls were working on won Grand Champion Lightweight and later sold for $3600 or AUD$9/kg (she weighed 391kg). She didn't place on the hook however. Another steer won the carcass with the highest points, but was docked because the carcass was 15kg over limit. He was a Belgian Blue cross and he dressed out at 68%. So here's some photos.

This is the heifer we exhibited a few weeks before show. They spent in total 100 days in the feedlot.

This was the champion led steer overall, also exhibited by the university

heifer looked good, and you showing her.....your not to bad yourself

Haha, nah that's not me, it's one of the other girls. I've spent years showing so I told them to parade her because they hadn't done it before.

Is there a reason your using rope halters and not leather?

That's all the uni uses on the steers because they show up to 20 show steers plus beef stud and stud dairy. It's not really a big thing. However, if it was a handler event you'd see leather.

:? slack Kyla lol

I actually hadnt picked up on that. I'm surprised you say its no big deal. It frustrates the crap outa me. Tell em to pull their finger out and get you guys some leathers.

Haha, yeah I was surprised too initially. I'd use leathers myself. The main thing is it's a clean halter. :lol2:

edit: looks like the older students had leathers...
