My thought was he would probably get docked on the grid (or auction) due to the size of the carcass... am I wrong here? If I am correct, then he almost has to sell privately.

If I ever can get over to see them and he lets me take some pics, I will definitely post them here.

Packers generally discount "heavy" carcasses. On this grid, they don't get serious about docking until the carcass is 1,000 lbs. But it's likely to vary according to the packer.

over 1000 pound carcass is a big hit at Dennison Iowa, I know that, lol. We sent a load in of calves a month or two ago and had one carcass hang at 1050 I think.. The deduction on that stinker ate all the premiums up on the rest of the load on that trailer. This trailer was mostly good yield grades with about average quality grades if I remember right.. Couple CAB animals.

Sorry I'm so slow responding. Having trouble with my internet service.
USdatanet.net sold out to Peoples. Nothing but trouble!!!

anyway, in our area. over 950# gets docked.
BB X angus would have to be fed out for a long time to reach over 1000# carcasses IMO.
