Bos taurus indicus cattle are by far the most abundant cattle in the world. Recently all cattle have been placed in the species Bos taurus. There are two subspecies: Bos taurus taurus and Bos taurus indicus.

Not a big deal if anyone is more comfortable using the former species Bos indicus.

India has more cattle than any other country.
Followed by Brazil then China.

Herefords are not even close.

But we're talking breeds, not mongrels and jungle beasts. I do seem to remember reading something about hereford, but can't say for sure. If this video is any indication there's a lot more out there than people realize, just because they've died off in north america doesn't mean the rest of the world isn't decades behind in that trend
