Hey, where am I on that list???
IMG_20221003_145728_853.jpg

As I'm preparing to move out, downsizing the herd that stays here, sending some to a friends place and retaining ownership, at least for some time.. Lots of decisions to make
Meanwhile it's weaning time tomorrow, Got some good pics of them the last few days

This first timer looks like crap, but what a heifer she raised.. was a bit late breeding back though
IMG_20221003_113001_017.jpg
Pretty decent looking girl
IMG_20221003_113854_460.jpgThe purebred I bought a few years ago with her son and both daughters
IMG_20221003_091049_311.jpg

Son in front, grandson in the back.. also an impressive boy for a first timer
IMG_20221003_145900_599.jpg

Prada (2012) with her 11th calf, she doesn't look like much but she's reliably made among the best calves of the herd.. really nice heifer but a bit spooky, though she is settling down a bit
IMG_20221003_114025_398.jpg

Prada's younger daughter Dusty with a nice steer.. only 5 months old
IMG_20221003_113404_814.jpg

Here's the two yearling steers, blonde one is Dusty's from last year, other one is Zippy's
IMG_20221003_114220_351.jpg

Prada's oldest daughter Zecca, She looked like crap after her 2nd calf, some good food turned her into quite a cow
IMG_20220915_091530_527.jpg

Like mother like daughter.. Zippy.. didn't get a good pic of her bull calf though today

IMG_20220907_111242_446 (2).jpgZecca's other daughter (10 months old today).. she's a tank, and BOSSY!!! She's bossing most of the long yearlings around, and even that thin cow.. I think she'll make a good momma if she takes after the rest of her family. She's the one that's due for the lute shot in a few days
IMG_20221003_113514_896.jpg

Kama made a whopper of a steer, really deep chested boy
IMG_20221003_114607_913.jpg

the oldest cow, a 2008 model shorthorn
IMG_20221003_113647_568.jpg

This is the one that had the oops baby last year, she's 2 1/2 years old now and has her 2nd calf.. born in June.. yeah, she's small but she's doing good
IMG_20221003_113042_870.jpg

Chroma, the one that was checking the list, and the momma of that thin first timer. Also Prada's full sister.. She's the prettier cow but Prada seems to make the better daughters. I kept her bull calf last year and sold him this spring, he turned out pretty good.. She's going on 12 years old
IMG_20220919_100037_836.jpg

Cenci (Kama's older full sister) and Ceres, both going on 12.. Ceres has had 10 calves... NEVER had a heifer calf
IMG_20220916_111414_621.jpg

Cenci's heifer Audi.. really nice calf..pic from a month ago

You have to be commended on your breeding. Hopefully the future is bright, happy and fulfilling.
Definitely not an easy decision.. about 10 cows will stay here, a few will be sold at auction, I'll be retaining ownership of about 10 animals, the new "owner" will get get the calves for doing the feeding.. a new-ish farm my friend is starting, not a lot of capital to invest in cattle, so it's a win win.
It's going to be an adjustment for me for sure..
This is one of the yearling heifers, the most in-your-pocket kind of pest I've ever had
One of the few decent side shots of her I have, she's always too close (The brockleface steer above is her full brother)

I'll never forget Hilldown saying that my first cow (the great great grandma of all the ones pictured) was really ugly, and admittedly we didn't know which side of a cow got up first when we started and made a number of bad decisions, Some took us 20 years to sort through

Ironically, her family line has had the least hoof and udder issues

What kind of cow's do you have? They look Great!

They're mostly Gelbvieh, some shorthorn, salers, and hereford if you go way back. This is the Salers sired daughter of the herf cow above, she got to be 18 years old, pictured at 16.. Granddaughter stealing some milk here, she's the one that was "checking my list", calf closest to her is Cenci, and Kama (the brockle face) was her last daughter

Looking alright for 16, but arthritis was starting to set in, and the teeth weren't what they were

Thank you for the quick reply. I have a few upcoming heifers that are all Gelvieh and one herf Gelvieh cross. I'm looking forward to how they turn out! Btw Beautiful Country!

The best of luck in the future. I know from previous posts it has been a tough couple of years. Hard to pick though such nice animals.
I am looking at mine also as there might be some separation of the operation that my son and I have had. Can't deal with some of the problems with the girlfriend... I am getting too old to want to put up with BS....
