The Maine Association registers percentage cattle so some Maines may have Shorthorn blood in them. The Shorthorn Assn also registers percentage cattle, so some Shorthorns may have Maine in them. Angus is the only beef cattle breed that is naturally black. That's where the black color came from for Maines, Simis, Limousine, Salers, etc.
