Okay I got to ask, as we live in a snake free area. What type of snakes?

Black Rat Snake
Elaphe obsoleta

Local Name: black snake

This is one of our largest common snakes. It is generally shiny black, but some individuals show dark brown blotches. Skin between the scales along the sides may be red. The belly is mottled with gray or may be checkered with black. Length averages from 42 to 72 inches (107-183 cm). Black rat snakes live in a wide variety of habitats: rocky, wooded hillsides, wooded areas along rivers, in or near farm buildings. This species is well known for its ability to climb trees. Black rat snakes eat rodents, birds, birds' eggs. They kill their prey by constriction. Farmers are well aware of the value of black rat snakes in controlling destructive rodents. Young of this species are light gray with dark brown or black markings (see inset), but after a year or two of growth, the color normally will change to a more uniform black

Dun,

I seen a couple of those little buggers yesterday, one about 4 ft and the other about 5. Last year about this time we had two 6 footers and a 4 footer living in our shed in the yard. My wife didn't find it amusing when she went to get out the lawnmower and they were hanging from the rafters

So I caught the two big ones and took them away from the house. I guess they were the males and the little one was the female, because she left. Before I took the two big ones away, I had them in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and I was going to show them to my brother in law (he is deathly scared of snakes). He wouldn't come within 100 feet of me. He just kept saying "You keep those SOB's away from me"

I never laughed so hard in all my life.

I'm scared of them too. In high school some of us were in the back of a truck gathering moss for decorations. One of those creatures fell in the truck and I jumped out. One of the boys picked it up and came after me. I was running and he thought it was real funny. I finally got my knife out and wheeled around. When he saw what I had, he started running the other way. I thought that was real funny.

Your brother in law needs to talk to me.

Yeah, sounds like you two have the same sentiments when it comes to snakes. So are you in your 20's and single? He needs a good woman.

These two are a little smaller then most of them I've seen they were only around 3 1/2 foot. But either they came back or that walnut tree is the local "No Tell Motel" because there were two of them about the same size yesterday and doing the same thing. Most of them we see are only about a foot or so or they're 4-6 foot.
I hate them around the house but wasn;t willing to scar up a good walnut tree by shooting them.

More than likely it was the same two, or possibly another male had slipped in to the female. If you can watch and see a couple of the males fighting for the female, it is very interesting to watch. I saw a couple of males fighting for about two hours one day over a female, what ended it was they finally fell about 20 foot out of a tree, then the smaller of the two left while the other crawled back up the tree to the female that had been laying in the fork of the tree just watching and waiting.
