Maybe someone can help me with this one. We have lost two calves to premature birth in the last couple of days. The cows are in two seperate pastures that do not join so there has been no contact between the two. Both calves were premature less than 7 mos. The cows seem to be healthy both are eating and traveling well with no signs of injury. Both are current on their shots. Could it be the weather(bad storm the night before), feed, hay? never lost two so close together and calving is just starting here in TX. Thanks for the help.

Moldy hay can cause abortions, as can various diseases. Stress and injuries can also. Then about 4% are accepted to be normal and unexplained.

Could the stormy weather have brought down some Mistletoe from the trees? Possibly Pine needles? Just a thought.
