If it was a low area could also be crawfish (crawdads).
I thought there was usually little bitty balls of dirt/mud at the entrance from them.

You are correct. Had to think a minute.
Some spiders make a hole like that with tapered sides then sit in the bottom and wait for the unsuspecting to fall in. Kind of like deer hunting from a tree stand.

My 12gauge holds 5 shells and I would use all 5 on Jeds 3 snakes. highgrits 1 snake would get all 5 shells as well. An 8 inch garter snake? ..... you guessed it all 5 shells. Send em to he77 where they belong.

lol I'll try to remember that next time I shoot one..............all of em!

Larry

Funny you should mention ammo, my dad shoots sporting clays and re-loads his own shells and is pretty particular about it. For every birthday and the like people buy him shells, which are not right so he gives them to me, in short we have all the ammo we need .There are two ways to do anything........ the right way and all the others.larryshoat

I'm just wondering....

Is it illegal to kill snakes in America?
Only the ones that are lawyers and politicions.
There are a few areas that some snakes are protected. In the Mojave desert the Mojave red and Mojave green rattle snakes are protected. I'm sure there are others in other places

That law and I would not get along. I live in part of the world where there aren't poisonous snakes for a reason.
I would use the SSS rule a lot then. :help: :secret:

Also don't forget that most Australians do not have guns.

The snakes are protected to protect the people not the snakes. Most people get bitten by accidentally standing on them or by trying to kill them.

That would be why I like my shotguns so much. I can kill them from afar.

When I accidently step on one I hope and pray I'm standing on his head. They have a very unique squishiness to them and you KNOW you are on one. Aftewards, I make Newton look like an imbicile with his silly ideas about gravity. Once the adrenlin subsides I like to make a mushy spot out of the vile beast. Snake bites have gotten too expensive to be letting them bite you another day.

Now that was funny Joe! Maybe more so because I know from experience...

In Australia all snakes are protected.

Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting and THAT law is more than enough reason to hate the Aussies.

I saw 2 when the rains first started I haven't seen any since. I just saw tails disappearing. One under the water tank that was no more and in pieces and one through brush when I was putting up a new fence.

But in the cities where they are not used to flooding I heard that where there wasn't water there was snakes. I didn't hear of anyone getting bitten though.

I have heard it said that the snakes in Australia are different to the snakes in America. The snakes in America will chase you down. The snakes in Australia, leave them alone and they will leave you alone.

Jogeephus I think you need to forget about good posture and start looking down when you walk!!!!

Depends on the species, some will be aggresive some won;t. But when they are shedding most any of them will strike, even if they don;t have any equipment to do any damage.
