Longhorn breeding age

Do you breed Texas Longhorn cows and heifers at the same age as conventional cattle? Gary

Yes. Ours usually begin to cycle anywhere from 12 to 15 months old. We don't like to breed them until they are around 15-16 months old.

Yes. We breed them to calve at roughly 2. Have even had them calve at ~22 months as to prevent giving birth in months with extreme weather (mostly heat).

I breed mine at 14 to 16 months.

We put our first calf heifers in with a young bull at about 14 months. The bull is between 14 months and about 2 yrs old, so he isn't too large for the heifer. After she has had her first calf, then she is put with one of our mature herd sires.
