We've got a few. I've often wondered what makes them a local celebrity. The one that comes to mind most, walks everywhere he goes. Often with a push mower in the summer. He barks at cars, and will bark on demand if you yell his name(he doesn't have a mental disorder). I've never talked to him. I'm not opposed to talking to him, I just never have. A town of 40,000 people here, and literally everyone knows his name.

Tel us about yours.

High school football coach Noel Dean! Every body around knows him (I think just about every one in the state knows the name at least) what makes him a local celebrity? What he has done for the school and the football program! He took a team that wasn't much when he started but is a state championship contender almost every year now! He doesn't have as much talent to work with as a lot of coaches around but he can really get the kids to work together! And he has helped improve the grades

Dad, can we go down to the high school tomorrow night and meet the man who met Andy Griffith?

We don't have any of those type local celebrities here--all our local clebs are in jail.

In Waco there is a guy who stands on a overpass and prays for all the cars going down 35. Dude wears some bright clothes and has a big walking stick. They even did a news piece on him a while back. I even seen him out in the middle of a thunderstorm.

No one stands out here, Bigfoot. There is a black man at the YMCA. He is 86 years old and spends more time at the Y than anyone I know. We all call him Pop. One of the nicest gentleman you could ever meet. He says he is 86. He looks younger and he exercises for at least 2 to 4 hours.

His wife died last year. Seems like he spends even more time there. He likes the weight room. Uses every machine. He has a limp but he looks solid. He is one of those people endowed with an eternal smile. His whole face smiles. You see it in his eyes, you hear it in his voice. My regular greeting is "How are you today, Pop?" He replies in a gravelly voice and joyful face. "Well, I am still here. They tell me to keep exercising and you will stay strong. I don't know but that is what they say."

Oh yeah I forgot about the people who have turned 6th street into a living nightmare full of dumba$$ yuppies wondering looking at a place just because the people are on tv. People come by bus loads and block traffic. I do my best to stay far away from that area of town.

Living close to Nashville, I am sure that there are several "Celebrities" that live in the area... The two that come to mind right off the bat are Rachel Smith, Miss USA back in 2007 and Jeff Purvis, who used to run in NASCAR back in the day. Jeff is now pretty successful in a couple of businesses, one of them being Clarksville Disposal.

I can't think of anybody...I starting to think it might be me

That's like the saying, "everyone on this forum is nuts except you and me and sometimes I wonder about you".

I was starting to think we really didn't have anyone that was weird and then I remembered this guy. Is he a limo driver? Yes, but wait there's more. Is he Rod Stewart? No. Is he Kevin Spacey's brother? YES!

JR Simplot is also from this area. He's no longer alive, but if any of you like rags to riches stories, his is pretty cool. Simplot's is a giant agricultural company, for those that don't know, and is one of the largest land owners in the west. It was started with a guy from Caldwell, ID who dropped out of the 8th grade.

in the last 10 years we've lost a lot of our memorable characters...
There is one up-and-comer though.. a fellow, about 35-40 who rides a bicycle around town, long hair and beard, definitely hippy, with pink paper cutout hearts all over his bicycle.. never spoken to him, but I know he's a harmless fellow, just a little loopy

Two of the real old time celebrities from this town were Hanging Judge Begbie (1819 - 1894) and Margaret "Ma" Murray (1888 - 1982),.. A very strong woman, a feminist, and I use that term with respect in her case, and a strong political voice.. she started several newspapers and was most known for the phrase "That's fer damsure!"

We have one Vietnam vet walks everywhere from town to town even with a cup of coffee. Graduated very high in his class fried his brain on drugs after he got back.

Nesikep, if we are allowed to dig em up from the past, here is one of Kentucky's finest:

http://www.breathittcounty.com/BadTom.html

There is a bar in Cincinnati. Bad Tom Smith Brewery. They have a beer called "Bad Azz in a Glass"

They don't call it "Bloody Breathitt" for nothin.

If you want more Bad Azz in a Glass, go on over to Hazard and Harlem.
