livestock scale

My old portable dial scale is about dead. I see you can buy the electronics and weigh cells for a scale for $200 to $400. I assume I would then build a platform for my weaned calves at then zero the tare weight out. I would like to be able to pick it up with a 3 point. Any feed back, experience etc.? Any one done anything like this? Would it be possible to use the cage from my old scale with weigh cells? Any info would be appreciated, farmguy
