I have looked at a herd of registerd Brangus cattle.........possibly to buy a few females. Many of them have heavy "leather like" skin areas near their navals.......very unsightly. Anyone erver seen this and know it's cause?

We have an older cow that when we got her had waht appeared to be callouses on her belly. I put it down as having been caused by the conditions she had been laying around in. Maybe hard, dry feedlot type of location. Within a year they had gone away and haven't returned. The cows are in a pasture environment here.

If you are referring to the "skin" that has hair on it like the rest of the body, but hangs down - this is a normal trait of the Brangus. Jeanne
