We have been approached by a local rancher interesting in leasing our land for a multi year period to run his cow/calf operation. He is tight on disposable cash to pay for lease so we were thinking of proposing a 50/50 split on the calf sales and winter feed expenses, he does all the work . . . transporting/haying/etc.
Is this a fair proposal? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Well land in alabama that you can run a pair on 2 acres easy, will rent for $10 to $15 an acre.
Now the price of feed and hay will depend on your management system.
You do the math.

You may just want to let him pay you when he sells the calves. At least that way you don't have to take any risk.

That's 10 to 15 a year per acre Detranchboy. I hardly think he will ask you to pay for any feed expense, or be willing to give you 50 percent of the crop.
