Three hours ago, about four feet long.

See those acorns on the ground? I hope a deer comes along eating them and that snake bites them in the lower neck.

I was about 20 ft away. Got an 18x zoom. No, didn't surprise me- one of my dogs alerted me to the snake and got him coiled up like that.

I got extremely lucky this afternoon. With no protection, I called myself looking on the ground after a shower but I missed him. For some reason I stoped and broke some dog fennel in to that was in my face and the top of the fennel hit the ground about 2 feet in front of me and a 4.5 footer threw its head back and started rattling. I retreated quicker than shot goes threw a goose. Still don't know why I stopped. Just lucky I guess.
