If you had a choice between Murray Greys and Beefalo (not that there aren't many other wonderful breeds out there) which would you choose and WHY? Again, many thanks for your input, you have all been a wonderful source of information. I'm sure I'll be pestering you on other boards!

I would vote for MG, the beefalo I have seen lacked the rear quarters. Unless you have a specific market in mine that will pay better for beefalo go with the animal bred for quality beef.

Is the relatively limited number of stock available a problem?

I would imagine that there are more MGs available then Beefalo. In your area you may be swamped with Beefalo, but I find a lot more sources for MG semen then Bflo.

I wouldn't touch a beefalo with a ten foot pole! I don't know for a fact, but I imagine they are pretty much on the wild side. I know buffaloes are! If you want to sell beef, stick with beef. If beefalos were going to catch on, they would have back when they first started touting them.

I too would have to tell you to go with the murray grey. It seems as though I find a new murray grey breeder every week.

You gave 2 options to choose from. I chose the better of the 2. I would personally go with angus.

Please pardon my ignorance...baldies are to me 1st Hereford x Angus. Is this what you are suggesting? Appreciate your expertise and want to learn the "lingo".... BTW- looking for a good butcher. Your advice was right on!!

I've never been around beefalo, but the reading I've done points toward low fertility problems in the breed. That's a big consideration in making your decision.
