Large volumes of cattle at sale barns

Texan,
I have to say that I really admire your reasoning. Its well fundamented and the economic logic you applied is very well thought out.

I've only been in the cattle business for almost 2 years and have learned quite a bit from formal sources as well as informal ones.

I completely agree on the bubble effect that new speculators bring in to any industry. I saw it first hand in the real estate market. I have been a real estate investor for over 12 years and as of the last 3 or so, there has been a ridiculous amount of speculation from amateurs who attend some seminars and come out thinking they are going to get rich. Well, now we have a huge inventory of property with deflating pricing and not enough demand. I'm afraid the same thing will happend to cattle; just as you described.

Boycott is definately not the answer. Markets move themselves and they are usually somewhat perfect; even of they don't seem that way. They are also resilient and will drive out the inefficiencies and reward the sound business plan.
What attacted me to the cattle business if the ability for your capital to literally grow feeding on grass. However, over the course of the months I grew to look at cattle with affection and realized that I like it for the animals and the people in it more than for the financial rewards it can bring.

Thanks

Andrew
