lame cows

I have had 3 cows develop lameness in a front foot in the last few days. There is some swelling in the hock. The affected cows almost refuse to get up, one of them grazes on knees. Acquired these cattle about 2 1/2 weeks ago off a dry feedlot and they are now on green grass. Gave them a 50lb bag of mineral to keep from getting grass tetnus.

If the grass is headed out fescue that could be the problem. Do a search on "fescue foot" or "fescue toxicity"

Give 4.5 cc per 100 body weight LA-200; treating for foot rot. You should notice a significant difference in 24-36 hours IF this is the problem. Let us know how thing go.

Sounds like you have either grass founder, or footrot.

Both can be treated

Founder: remove from lush forage and give lower protein dry forrage.

Hoof rot, treat with a etracyline Antibiotic.
