What causes knots to come up in the neck after a SQ injection? How can I prevent and how long till it goes away? (already been better than 6 months) Thanks for your input! ;-)

I'm not sure why it happens on some animals and not others and some shots but not others but it is not a bad thing. Sometimes it will go away in a few months but if it has been there for 6 mts then they will probably stay there. I don't know how to prevent the knots but I wouldn't worry about them either. Think of it this way, if someone sees a knot on your calf they know that it was vaccinated with something.

Dirty or dull needles will leave an injection site "knot" as well.
I have also has knots left if the animal was not properly restrained while the shot was being administered.

Agree, needles are cheap compaired to your herds health. In some cases I chalk it up to bad luck. It always happens to my best looking animals.

Thank you all! It sounds like I maybe need to quit being so cheap with needles! Vet said needle sharing was okay, but maybe going to rethink this!

We "needle share" and change it when it gets dull. Some animals will react to shots, others doen't. We have a cow that has a knot from every vaccination she's had, she's now 6 years old. Others never seem to react at all.
I just ascribe it to, you pays your money and takes your chances.
