I had a bunch of smartweed in my pasture last year, sprayed it with 2,4-D and I had
very little return so far this year.

i had planned on grazon, but wanted to get some more opinions.

I used 2-4 D two days ago so I am still witing on the results. I did not want to use Grazon as I have a good bit of clover in the winter. It is too hot for clover now Grazon can prevent it sprouting in the fall. 2-4D should not last that long.

So far the 2-4D seems to be working.

Have you had a good soil test done? Smartweed could indicate Low calcium, Low humus, poor drainage , high moisture and soil dominated by anaerobic bacteria. Do some/all of these indicators fit?
