I am trying Japanese millet this summer. Cut the first hay crop off of a run down alfalfa field, sprayed Roundup, tilled and planted. The millet came up in four days. So far so good...

I am concerned about getting it to dry enough for baling. Any experience with recommended timing and waste level by using the cattle for direct grazing or swath grazing of millet???

I am grazing Pearl Millet now. I turn the cows in for about 2 hours and run them back out. Takes a couple of days to train them but they don't walk it down so bad. When they get the hang of it they walk in the gate with noses on the ground. Good grazing and you don't worry about Prussic acid.
Lots of stockers here rotational graze pearl millet. I suppose it's about the same as Japanese? Responds quick to nitrogen too!
