If you had $1000 to $3000 cash money laying around and do not want to buy anthing frivolous , how would you invest it or what would you buy to make more money than than interest in a short time?

depends on the necessity of your $1000 to $3000 being returned....other than that,it would go to my mutual fund accounts per my asset allocation. But if the money was needed for something soon it would just stay in a bank account.

Cuttin bulls or lightweight steers.

Do you have time to contribute labor along with the cash? Are you 100% debt free?

Good point.
If your willing to do some work. With the time of the year. A good decent lawnmower and weedeater outta turn a good profit for a gogetter.
On the livestock investment side. Heavy bred goats.

Edit to add...steel pipe

if you have the pasture i'd say brew hair ewes.

other then that i'd just keep saving it until an opportunity arises.

I started with a lawnmower a few decades ago. It took a little work, but here we are. If there is any debt, pay that off first unless it's a guaranteed high margin kinda deal. I'm bout to sell something so I can get a load of that steel pipe. :cowboy:

loan shark

What is your definition of short time? 2 years? I can think of some bond funds that are better than nothing.

loan shark

I've actually funded small loans like payday loans. At the time I didn't really understand it but the return was around 18% and I could buy certain sized packages anywhere from a $1000 to $20,000. I didn't have to worry about collecting any money because the loan company handled all this and they required at least collateral of nearly twice what the loan was worth so they couldn't lose. The more I looked into it the more I saw it was just a legalized loan shark and I stopped doing it because though it was legal it just didn't seem right.

Again involving equipment.. buying a piece of equipment you need to do a job.. just as an example, a post pounder.. you buy it for 1K, use it for a job, and sell it again.. the profit comes in the form of the work it has done for you.

Good point. Most people don't think of cash flowing equipment, but it can be done.

Beats the heck out of renting or paying someone else's machine off!!!

$1-3K is pretty small for investment; I would put it to a bank account with the best interest rate. If we are talking about bigger money like at least $300K, I would take a mortgage in a foreign bank for buy to let property. Experts say that buying property with mortgage abroad can increase yields, however, there are some pitfalls too:https://tranio.com/traniopedia/tips/foreign-mortgages-top-10-hidden-pitfalls/. I am quite interested in this possibility, probably will become an investor in a few years.
