We also end up with a few keepers every year that have horns. When we have the Vet. give them their shots he takes care of the ones with horns ( ~$5 per head). We've done it ourselfs ( my brothers & I ) but it's easier to let the vet do it and take care of any bleeders that pop up.

My old Dad's advice about how deep you cut is " If you're not getting a ring of hair you're not getting enough horn". He's been in the business for ~ 50 years. ;-)
