The San Carlos Apache Tribe is rebuilding their purebred Hereford herd with daughters of Pure Gold, Solid Gold, Game Plan, and 212M, acquired from King Herefords of Stanley, New Mexico. The San Carlos Hereford herd dates back to the 1920's, and their ad sign says they have been in cooperation with the University of Arizona since 1956.

I ran across this info in the King Herefords ad in the April Hereford World. I'm wondering if any of you know more about this venture.

What is the deal with Indian Tribe Herds? Can someone explain this to me? Thanks
Several Indian tribes have large cattle operations, such as The Seminole Tribe of Fla. They have huge spreads like Brighton Reservation, and Devils' Garden. they own the Land on the Reservation and have put it to good use.

Thats pretty neat. I think that the Seminole Tribe has those Cracker cattle on there reservation
Actually I believe there are no Cracker Cattle on the Seminole reservation. Most are in the Kissimmee area and I believe Alachua County, near Gainesville. The State used to have auctions for Cracker Cattle once a year. I don't know if they still do it. They have a Cattle drive with real Cracker Cattle that goes from Kissimmee to Ft. Pierce I believe.

I read the ad in the Hereford World as well. I am glad this is happening, but I don't know of anymore information about this happening. They are using good herdsires to start there herd with. :cboy:
