Increasing Milk Production

I have a heifer who just calved and she doesn't produce enough milk. She produces a little, but not enough for the calf. A friend told me that I could get a high protein feed and that would increase her milk production. Is this true or an old wives tale?

High Protein feed does increase milk in dairy cattle so I would think that it would in beef also.
