I have a new gelding and my mare has kind of been going crazy. She will go up to him and whinny and then liquid will shoot out the back of her. Is this just a "time of year" you think? If so, when will it be over?? My gosh I thought since she is like 27 that couldn't be it but now I'm really thinking it is.

Also, does "low port" just mean the bar is skinnier in a bit?

Sounds like she is in heat, they usally cycle through most of the year, a normal mare cycles every 21 days. The darker winter months they may skip a cycle or two, three. Some mares will cycle into their 30's but most into thier 20's.

A the port refers to the raised up portion at the centre of a curb bit. A low port means the bend is not very great, and therefore will not put as much pressure on the horse's palate.
