I kind of have mixed feelings about saying Young people will not work today. I would probably be guilty of this thought in past. But this thread has made me stand back and look at it all from a different perspective.

I am not so sure our kids today are so lazy. I do believe they are more lazy around the house and made to do less than youth of the past.

But when I think about young kids having Jobs, I am not so sure they are that lazy. I think things have just changed, we might not be able to find teens to haul hay, pick up rocks, clear brush, and hard labor like there is around a farm. But if you look at fast food restaurants, grocery stores, Retail stores on the Mall. Millions of teens are working. I was one of the rare teens in my class of 82 that had a regular job during school, but when I look at my sons Sophomore class I see numerous of his classmates holding after school jobs.
 
aplusmnt, I agree SOME kids want/will work. Most have to have A/C jobs or what they think are cool jobs. My son even told me one time that he turned down a few jobs because they were not cool :(

Down here we have a very high concentration of "so called" minorities. To get general labor you almost have to hire a Mexican. Kids won't use a shovel, rake, hammer, or chain saw. I will qualify that with "most kids". There are exceptions. I have a neighbor looking for kids to work for him. He can't find any. When I was putting a metal roof on two houses and three garages, I couldn't find any help. They just wanted to sponge off or mom/dad and drive those stupid little shoe boxes with 55 gallon mufflers on them.

I drive by two day labor places on occasion and who do I see standing out front? White men, white women, and Mexicans. MOST blacks don't/won't work. It is easier to just get welfare sell drugs, or steal. When they are arrested they claim they are being profiled. Yeah sure, wonder why?

I say if they don't want to work send them back where they came from. They don't work there either.

Since I took up for the teens. Now I will dog them a little. Around here I think lots of teens do work, and you are correct they want the easy jobs in the AC. I had an 18 year old that went to work for me at $7.00 an hour about 10 years ago. After I got him trained and he was doing a fine job, he said he was going to quit. I offered him $9.00 an hour to stay working for me. He did not take it. He had gotten a job at a local Parts store paying $5.50 an hour to deliver parts all day. He gave up almost $4.00 an hour for an easier job.

But my biggest problem with teens today is not that they will not work, it is their work ethic when they do work. Just go into any McDonald and see the attitude they have when they wait on you.
 
Shoot, Walk into any store just about in the City and see what kind of attitude you get. I dont care if the employee is young or older. Half of them have a look of death on their faces.Wal-Mart is about the worst. If I ran that store, they'd be smiling or fired.Same goes for young employees.

Amen to that! I go into the 24 hour Wal marts a lot when they are stocking the shelves, the employees will not even get our of your way, never say hello or may I help you. Wal Mart has to have the least friendly employees there is.

They would have to haul hay or come clean my fence row out. The modern cash register might be the greatest inventions ever made for Teens. Gave them a whole new job market :D
 
Bottom line
1. Mexicans are on the street corner to get work and blacks are on the corner to sell crack or compare their welfare checks.
2. Blacks have 3 times the babies and are not married and I pay the bill.
3. Blacks have been given more incentives to get help from the Govt. than I ever had but they choose to stay home and just have babies so they can get more on their welfare check.
4. Blacks worry about visiting rights for the brothers in prison than getting a $$cking job.

obviously our great country is not going to do anything about the illegals. in fact they are only making it easier on them by these bilingual programs and what not. They can speak their own language all they want but our government, television, and school system should be in ENGLISH. i think an after school work programs for kids should be implemented so that these white and black and whatever color, race, sex, age, religion, what-have-you kids can fill jobs sucked up by illegals making it more difficult to find a job here in the land of opportunity. Side effects will be video game withdraw, weightloss, work ethic, value of $1, knowledge and experience expansion, callosus on the hands, sore arms, legs, and back for the first couple of days, maturity may occur.

I am not hear to defend black people that is their responsibility. But I do not understand what your problem with blacks has to do with the illegal immigration problem we currently have?

And just because a select few Hispanics stand at Home Depot does not mean they should be considered a hard working race! For every one there wanting to get a cash day job there is 10 breaking into some home somewhere or selling drugs. You really need to look at the crime problem and reputation in the Hispanic community nationwide before you class them so far above Blacks and even Whites as you did earlier!

Hispanics and especially illegals make up the second biggest welfare problem we have in the U.S. One of the biggest problems we have with welfare is illegals getting Welfare because they have an American born child.

You really are raising these people up a lot higher than what statistics and reputation has shown. Most are uneducated, coming from a country were over 1/2 of them survive on $5.00 a day income, with poverty comes social problems that can not be denied such as drugs, alcohol problems, Crime.

If you think you can put them on such a higher pedestal than Black people then lets see you go down to East LA with a pocket of money, and walk the streets at night, unless you yourself are Hispanic it might not be any different than going down in the Hood, to me right or wrong they have similar reputations, and to say they are harder working than the white man is either a stupid or prejudiced view that is not backed by any proof except a few standing at Home Depot to get some beer money for the day.

I do disagree Hispanics are creating crimes unless you have some statistics to back that up. Hispanics also always support their families and do not have a lot of children out of wed lock that my tax dollars pay for. I no I come off as a bigot but I assure you I do have a lot of black friends but reality is we have a big problem when it comes to the work force in construction and the Hispanics are the only ones that want to do the work. As I mentioned before they make quite a bit of money and are not used as slave labor. I read something about the Govt. cracking down on illegal immigrants in the slaughter house business and after they almost put them out of business the Govt. backed off. The Govt. truly understands the immigration problem but big business is warning them to back off. There is also a IRS program that illegals can sign up and pay taxes and it does not matter they are illegal. Now if that is not hyprocritical I do not no what is.

Because the pro-illegal alien lobby has a bottomless pit of money and can hire PR people to spin (and fabricate) anything any way, there are an undue number of myths and lies that the public (and many politicians) has bought into. The FACTS are:

1. It is NOT racist to call these people "illegal aliens" In fact, "illegal aliens" is the only term used in federal laws and regulations to describe criminals (and they ARE criminals) who come into our country illegally. They are not illegal immigrants, not undocumented immigrants, not migrant workers, and not day laborers - they're ILLEGAL ALIENS.

2. Mexico is NOT a poor country. It has the fifth richest economy in the world, and by sending its teeming masses to our country, that status keeps on rising. Mexico has more resources per square mile than the U.S. and plenty of money to take care of its own people. Why should the taxpayers of this country subsidize Mexico's corruption?

3. Illegal aliens are NOT necessarily coming here to work. Lou Dobbs recently reported that 33 percent of our prison population is now comprised of non-citizens. Plus, 36 to 42 percent of illegal aliens are on welfare. So, for a good proportion of these people, the American dream is crime and welfare, not coming here to work.

4. Illegal aliens are NOT doing work Americans won't do. What jobs won't Americans do? In most states, Americans still clean their own houses, do their own landscaping, clean hotel rooms, work in restaurants and fast food places, paint houses, DO CONSTRUCTION WORK, work in airports, etc. - just like we have the past 200 years before "our" government allowed these people to invade our country. There are 18 million Americans who cannot find a job, so illegal aliens who are coming here to work do so at peril to American workers.

5. Illegal aliens absolutely do not contribute more than they cost. Certainly the millions in prison and on welfare aren't contributing a dime to our economy, and the ones who are working often are paid in cash with no deductions for taxes at all. The ones who use fraudulent social security numbers and qualify to pay taxes and social security have so many deductions for dependents that they pay little if any taxes. We have seen them pay less than $100 in taxes and get back $4,000 refunds (thanks to earned income tax credits and multiple dependents). The Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the average Mexican illegal alien costs U.S. taxpayers a whopping $55,000 each. Some bargain, eh?

6. The economy does NOT depend on illegal aliens. Sure, greedy CEOs (making $50 to $150 MILLION a year) and business owners depend on illegal aliens, but due to #3, #4 and #5 above, the only thing illegal aliens are contributing to is the collapse of our economy and making the rich richer.

7. Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will NOT soar. The definitive study on this subject is the University of Iowa's "How Much Is That Tomato?" The study concludes that 'since labor is such a small component of the end-price of agricultural products (which includes price to the growers, transportation costs, processing /storage costs, grocers' profit, etc.), using minimum wage workers instead of illegal aliens would increase prices of agricultural products by approximately 3 percent in the summer and 4 percent in the winter ... hardly the making of $10 heads of lettuce, $25 hamburgers, $1,000 per night Days Inn hotel rooms like the pro-illegal alien lobby claims.

8. Consumers are NOT benefiting from lower labor costs. Again, it's CEOs and business owners who benefit from taxpayer subsidies for their illegal alien workers. The Big Three automakers say they moved so many jobs to Mexico because their labor costs are 80 percent less than in America. Anybody notice the price of new cars spiraling downward under NAFTA?

So, before you believe the prevalent pack of lies perpetuated by the illegal alien lobby, which makes billions off this government-sanctioned criminal activity, ask yourself who's saying this garbage and look at what they have to gain. Citizens Against Illegal Immigration, just like Protect Arizona NOW, is an all-volunteer, totally grass-roots organization of citizens who are making nothing and have nothing personal to gain from their efforts to fight this corruption. Whose side are you on, and what are YOU doing to save your state and country from this evil?

Cristobal Silverio emigrated illegally from Mexico to Stockton, Calif., in 1997 to work as a fruit picker.

He brought with him his wife, Felipa, and three children, 19, 12 and 8 – all illegals. When Felipa gave birth to her fourth child, daughter Flor, the family had what is referred to as an "anchor baby" – an American citizen by birth who provided the entire Silverio clan a ticket to remain in the U.S. permanently.


But Flor was born premature, spent three months in the neonatal incubator and cost the San Joaquin Hospital more than $300,000. Meanwhile, oldest daughter Lourdes married an illegal alien gave birth to a daughter, too. Her name is Esmeralda. And Felipa had yet another child, Cristian.

The two Silverio anchor babies generate $1,000 per month in public welfare funding for the family. Flor gets $600 a month for asthma. Healthy Cristian gets $400. While the Silverios earned $18,000 last year picking fruit, they picked up another $12,000 for their two "anchor babies."

While President Bush says the U.S. needs more "cheap labor" from south of the border to do jobs Americans aren't willing to do, the case of the Silverios shows there are indeed uncalculated costs involved in the importation of such labor – public support and uninsured medical costs.

In fact, the increasing number of illegal aliens coming into the United States is forcing the closure of hospitals, spreading previously vanquished diseases and threatening to destroy America's prized health-care system, says a report in the spring issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.

"The influx of illegal aliens has serious hidden medical consequences," writes Madeleine Pelner Cosman, author of the report. "We judge reality primarily by what we see. But what we do not see can be more dangerous, more expensive, and more deadly than what is seen."

According to her study, 84 California hospitals are closing their doors as a direct result of the rising number of illegal aliens and their non-reimbursed tax on the system.

"Anchor babies," the author writes, "born to illegal aliens instantly qualify as citizens for welfare benefits and have caused enormous rises in Medicaid costs and stipends under Supplemental Security Income and Disability Income."

In addition, the report says, "many illegal aliens harbor fatal diseases that American medicine fought and vanquished long ago, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, plague, polio, dengue, and Chagas disease."

While politicians often mention there are 43 million without health insurance in this country, the report estimates that at least 25 percent of those are illegal immigrants. The figure could be as high as 50 percent.

Not being insured does not mean they don't get medical care.

Under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1985, hospitals are obligated to treat the uninsured without reimbursement.

"Government imposes viciously stiff fines and penalties on any physician and any hospital refusing to treat any patient that a zealous prosecutor deems an emergency patient, even though the hospital or physician screened and declared the patient's illness or injury non-emergency," says the report. "But government pays neither hospital nor physician for treatments. In addition to the fiscal attack on medical facilities and personnel, EMTALA is a handy truncheon with which to pummel politically unpopular physicians by falsely accusing them of violating EMTALA."

According to the report, between 1993 and 2003, 60 California hospitals closed because half their services became unpaid. Another 24 California hospitals verge on closure, the author writes.

"American hospitals welcome 'anchor babies,'" says the report. "Illegal alien women come to the hospital in labor and drop their little anchors, each of whom pulls its illegal alien mother, father, and siblings into permanent residency simply by being born within our borders. Anchor babies are citizens, and instantly qualify for public welfare aid: Between 300,000 and 350,000 anchor babies annually become citizens because of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and the State wherein they reside."

Among the organizations directing illegal aliens into America's medical systems, according to the report, are the Ford Foundation-funded Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, the National Immigration Law Center, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association's Commission on Immigration Policy, Practice, and Pro Bono, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, the National Council of La Raza, George Soros's Open Society Institute, the Migration Policy Institute, the National Network for Immigration and Refugee Rights and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Because drug addiction and alcoholism are classified as diseases and disabilities, the fiscal toll on the health-care system rises.

When Linda Torres was arrested in Bakersfield, Calif., with about $8,500 in small bills in a sack, the police originally thought it was stolen money, explained the report. It was her Social Security lump sum for her disability -- heroin addiction.

"Today, legal immigrants must demonstrate that they are free of communicable diseases and drug addiction to qualify for lawful permanent residency green cards," writes Cosman, a medical lawyer, who formerly taught medical students at the City University of New York. "Illegal aliens simply cross our borders medically unexamined, hiding in their bodies any number of communicable diseases."

Many illegals entering this country have tuberculosis, according to the report.

"That disease had largely disappeared from America, thanks to excellent hygiene and powerful modern drugs such as isoniazid and rifampin," says the report. "TB's swift, deadly return now is lethal for about 60 percent of those infected because of new Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis. Until recently MDR-TB was endemic to Mexico. This Mycobacterium tuberculosis is resistant to at least two major anti-tubercular drugs. Ordinary TB usually is cured in six months with four drugs that cost about $2,000. MDR-TB takes 24 months with many expensive drugs that cost around $250,000 with toxic side effects. Each illegal with MDR-TB coughs and infects 10 to 30 people, who will not show symptoms immediately. Latent disease explodes later.

TB was virtually absent in Virginia until in 2002, when it spiked a 17 percent increase, but Prince William County, just south of Washington, D.C., had a much larger rise of 188 percent. Public health officials blamed immigrants. In 2001 the Indiana School of Medicine studied an outbreak of MDR-TB, and traced it to Mexican illegal aliens. The Queens, New York, health department attributed 81 percent of new TB cases in 2001 to immigrants. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ascribed 42 percent of all new TB cases to 'foreign born' people who have up to eight times higher incidences apparently, 66 percent of all TB cases coming to America originate in Mexico, the Philippines and Vietnam."

Other health threats from illegals include, according to the report:

Chagas disease, also called American trypanosomiasis or "kissing bug disease," is transmitted by the reduviid bug, which prefers to bite the lips and face. The protozoan parasite that it carries, Trypanosoma cruzi, infects 18 million people annually in Latin America and causes 50,000 deaths. The disease also infiltrates America's blood supply. Chagas affects blood transfusions and transplanted organs. No cure exists. Hundreds of blood recipients may be silently infected.
Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, was so rare in America that in 40 years only 900 people were afflicted. Suddenly, in the past three years America has more than 7,000 cases of leprosy. Leprosy now is endemic to northeastern states because illegal aliens and other immigrants brought leprosy from India, Brazil, the Caribbean and Mexico.
Dengue fever is exceptionally rare in America, though common in Ecuador, Peru, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Mexico. Recently, according to the report, there was a virulent outbreak of dengue fever in Webb County, Texas, which borders Mexico. Though dengue is usually not a fatal disease, dengue hemorrhagic fever routinely kills.
Polio was eradicated from America, but now reappears in illegal immigrants as do intestinal parasites, says the report.
Malaria was obliterated, but now is re-emerging in Texas.
The Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons report includes a strong prescription for protecting the health of Americans:

Closing America's borders with fences, high-tech security devices and troops.
Rescinding the U.S. citizenship of "anchor babies."
Punishing the aiding and abetting of illegal aliens as a crime.
An end to amnesty programs.
 
One simple point that is being over looked in all this mess.

We already allow people to legally come here through legal immigration. If we really need more workers here then all we have to do is increase the numbers we allow to get green cards or become American citizens!

It will be our choice if we need more workers, not someone from another country deciding for us. If and when we need them here, we will invite them!

We currently invite 100's of thousands every year to come and work here, we will just increase that to a few millions if we need them.

Until then stay out and wait till you are invited!
 
California makes illegal immigrants at home

The Pew Hispanic Center, a think tank based in Washington, D.C., recently came out with a study that can only be listed under the "duh" category.Ý

First, it says that there are about 11 million people here illegally. That is probably wrong. Earlier studies put the number at closer to 20 million, and since the Pew number is based on census data ---- which relies on voluntary responses that even the Democrats blame for undercounting minorities and the poor ---- the higher number is probably closer to correct.

Pew tells us some things that we already know, such as 55 percent of those in this country illegally are from Mexico, and those who come from Mexico illegally outnumber those who are here legally by a 2-to-1 margin. In addition, about 80 percent to 85 percent of those coming from Mexico in recent years did so illegally, and the number of illegal immigrants in this country has increased by about 25 percent. The largest portion of those illegal immigrants resides here in California.


The question is why? My friends on the left will say that those here illegally "do the jobs American citizens won't do" such as gardening, nanny and maid work, farming, janitorial, and other low-wage jobs. That may be true as far as it goes, but it doesn't explain why things are so out of control here in California.

California's illegal immigrant problem is easily explainable, however, when one considers how we treat those who get into our state illegally.

All states are required to provide emergency hospital care to people regardless of citizenship. They are also required to provide a free public education to anybody who lives in their state. Attempts to stop these practices with Proposition 187 here in California were ruled unconstitutional by a federal court, keeping those mandates in place.

The federal government should be compensating our state for those costs, and for the costs of jailing and imprisoning illegal aliens, but has fallen woefully short of paying for their obligation to us.

Those requirements exist in every state. The reason illegal immigrants stay in California in the greatest numbers is because beyond the huge labor market and large cities to get lost in, they get welfare, free food, free medical care and in-state college tuition that they cannot get in Mexico.

Mexico does not have a social welfare system anywhere comparable to that available in California, and if someone can get into this state, that person can get health care and welfare and send that money home to the family in Mexico. If they can find a job on top of that, then that's just more money they can send home, but the biggest benefit is given by the state government at taxpayers' expense.

The federal government does not contribute one dime of its tax collections to the state's effort to subsidize illegal entry into this country. California taxpayers foot the entire bill. Those taxpayers are justifiably outraged.

This "pay the illegals welfare" program was instituted in 1999. Illegal immigration has expanded dramatically during the years since then, and California has been paying the bill for that dramatic increase. The rest of the country is somewhat shocked by this increase, but they don't do much, because most states don't pay a dime to illegals for public services. Only in California do illegals profit so much from their stay here.

Meanwhile, police agencies in places such as Los Angeles have standing orders not to disturb criminals who are also in violation of immigration laws, creating a safe haven for even the worst of our uninvited guests. Arizona took a major step to limit illegal alien spending to only those things mandated by the federal government, a move that will make California even more attractive to those who wish to cross the border illegally.

That makes the illegal problem a California problem, not an employer problem or a "Bush" problem. Until California is willing to say "no welfare for illegals," illegal immigrants will continue to come and stay, and you and I will continue to pay.

In FY 2003 there were 25,990 Federal defendants charged with a drug offense. More than a quarter (27.1%) of the defendants were white, 28.2% were black, and 43.3% were Hispanic. Individuals of another race made up 2.5% of the drug cases. The drug most often involved in Hispanic cases was Heroin. Methamphetamine was the most common drug type for whites and crack cocaine was the most common drug type for blacks.9

During 2001, there were a total of 1,208,700 sentenced State prison inmates, 246,100 of whom were incarcerated for drug offenses. The majority of drug offenders held in State prisons were black (139,700), followed by whites (57,300), and Hispanics (47,000).11 Realize even though Hispanics had almost the same amount incarcerated, they only make up around 13% of the population while whites make up almost 70%
