Brucillosis has all but disappered.

Controlling Brucellosis

(in humans this is known as undulant fever)
Current Status
"All 50 States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are brucellosis-free, except for the occasional spillover of cases occurring in livestock near the Greater Yellowstone Area due to bison and elk having the disease."

Bangs vaccination is not longer required although Some States don't allow cattle or domestic bison to be moved interstate for breeding without a record of brucellosis vaccination.

TB infected cattle - In people, TB is usually caught from other people. The germ is Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In cattle they can get Mycobacterium bovis. Infected dairy workers can have this and spread it. Meanwhile, infected Mexican dairy workers have been streaming across the southern border and finding emplyment in US dairys. It can be spread by unpasteurized milk.

Unpasteurized dairy products

People are most commonly infected with M. bovis by eating or drinking contaminated, unpasteurized dairy products.

The pasteurization process destroys disease-causing organisms in milk by rapidly heating and then cooling the milk. This process eliminates M. bovis from milk products."

Lactose intolerance is caused by not having the lactase enzyme to digest milk sugar. Most people of northern European ancestry because the long history of consuming milk from dairy cows have the genetics to produce lactase far beyond infancy. In those without these genetics lactase goes away when ast infancy. People can take a lactase pill before injesting dairy products and feel just fine. I was a veterinary nurse (vet tech) before I was a human nurse and am blessed to be like the other calf of a Jersey cow. It doesn't leave the farm so I don't pasteurize.

I couldn't agree more. Some people are definitely nasty. And even some who are not nasty are just "unclean". Maybe one and the same. I think that's the main principle behind not being able to sell raw milk. But I still don't understand why one can't drink from their own cow.
How would they know? If I wanted it they would never know.

I just heard back for the Oregon State veterinarian. Bangs vaccination is still required in the states surrounding Yellowstone in the survailance area. Because it's in the bison and elk.

Brucellosis Vaccination No Longer Required as of January 1, 2024 in Oregon.
Boy, I was glad to find this out because the only vet in the area that sees cattle would have charged me $218 per animal plus documenttion and thats if I trailered them there. Would have cost me over $1000 for nothing.
