Education is paramount and as a society we have done a poor job of safeguarding it. I am fortunate to have my grandfather's books from when he was at UC Davis before he was drafted into WWII. Although they are to some degree outdated, they are of a higher quality than my parent's books. And what comes from the universities today is horrible.
How did it come to be this way? The ground up tradition of developing independent thinkers and leaders was supplanted new model of education which came from second reich Germany which had the goal of creating compliant factory workers. We all know how that worked out.
It drives me crazy, how the same people who complain about how the country is going in the wrong direction donate to scholarships that fund the perverted education system.

I totally agree about the importance of education including street smarts. If i am able to learn just one thing from a book i am reading i consider the expense well spent. I have been looking for this book you are generously sharing and have not been successful. Am very grateful you thought of sharing this. Old books are the foundation of new ideas.

My dad could identify the 20% that were getting eighty percent of the results. He said that in any bunch of guys the smartest one was the guy that looked like the job was easy so he looked lazy... but he was always done faster than anyone else.

Not at all. Being an actual real cowboy has some very specific talents. And I know some real cowboys who I never see wearing cowboy boots or hats.

Today with AI and embryo transplant, the most current genetics are ubiquitous. Yet the same set of bulls will sell for several times the price at the fancy outfit compared to the mom and pop outfit.

There is a lot more to discuss about genetics. I might post Bonsma's livestock production when I get don with this book.
