Did you break off a leave stem?

That would settle the answer if its milkweed or not wouldnt it.

Yup, hat was the point. If it isn;t milk weed, which I think it is, it would provide a whole new source of fodder for discussion.

ive never seen any milkweekd like that. but i only know of three kinds.

That looks like marestail. It has been reported that some are glyphosate resistant.

I just went back and looked at the plant picture. That isn;t the one that I thought was milkweed. Had it confused with the other "what is it" plant. This one I have no guesses on

Also known as a cash crop.

Im sure your joking, but its definitely not marihuana.

I can't tell too much from picture. Root looks woody like the Tea Weed. Leaves resemble it a little too but am probably wrong. Roundup will kill it when its young but its hard to kill when it gets older unless you bump the rates up. Seeds and reproduces profusely.

It's common Evening Primrose. Maybe. Spray 24D on it if you wish to be rid of it. Please follow label directions for grazing lands.

Thanks guys. It is not any type of milkweed. I did finally get chance to spray the horse pasture with 2,4D and it is doing the job on them. I may have to hit some again but it is working.

ga prime I will have to look up your suggestion and see if it is. It does flower little tiny flowers about the size of a small finger nail.

It still looks like marestail to me. Also if the top was turning yellow from the round-up then it was working. Round-up just takes longer to knock down weeds. If you need a place to ID the weed try the Nebraska weed book. It is one of the best.

Not Primrose,Marestail, Milkweed, or Tea Weed. Leaves are different.

Some that received a real heavy wetting or Roundup did die but most came back ok after a few weeks. So far the 2,4D is working on them. Some are just brown stems and some are stressing. I guess I could have hit the brown stem ones twice while turning or something.

Why not just take it to the extension service and find out, instead of experimenting with controls that don't seem to be working very well.

Two reasons come to mind. I call and ask about identifying weeds and I get "ahhh don't know nobody who does that did ya try a nursery"?

Second reason, they are a bunch of idiots getting paid because they are friends or relatives of folks doing the hiring. Come in a 10AM, leave at 11AM for lunch, come back at 2PM, go home at 3PM. Nice work if you can find it.

Do you have an NRCS office close by?

Take it in there. Either someone will know what it is off the top of their head or they can spec it out.
I ahuled 6 strange weeds that I'ld not seen around here before into the local office Monday. Five of them they knew right off, the 6th they speced out and sent me an email with what it is. Once you know for sure it makes it a lot easier to select to proper herbicide.
