I REALLY REALLY want one of these!

Saw one in the pet store today, if I had the tank set up and an extra $90 I would have snaffled him!

I'm a bit of a fish addict. I have three tanks set up at the moment:

#1. breeding pair of Convict Cichlids

#2. community tank - Cardinal Tetra, Black Ghost Knife, Clown Loach, Coolie Loach, Glass Catfish, Pearl Danio, Julii Cory, Panda Cory, Peppered Corydoras (its funny, this tank has like five or so of each of the Cories, and mostly they all keep in their own little groups), Dwarf Gourami, Upside down cat fish, Pakistani Loach, Zebra Danio, Zebra Loach.

You can probably tell from that, I like loaches and cory's, and I'm partial to striped fish lol

#3. marine tank - two orange/red clownfish, going to add two black clownfish to this as well

#4. Specialist tank. Was considering a pair of sea horses, Malebo Puffer, Red Devil Cichlid, Lyre Tail Pleco or Moray Eel. Am now adding the Lionfish to this list because the guy in the shop just captivated me!

Its pretty. We have 5 ponds in the garden with comet,shibunkins,black moors and orandas. Inside we just have black moors at the minute.

They dont bite but they will attack and those spines are venomous. Not enough to kill you but enough to send you to the ER

My roommate and I thought about getting one of those. Or setting up a tank to match the "Finding Nemo" movie. We figured it would impress the ladies. We then quickly realized we would need money to do any of those things. I think those lion fish look cool.

The orange clownfish in my tank are 'nemo fish' - I thought about adding a Dory to the tank when I saw they had one there the other day, but my clownfish really arent very big guys, and the dory was pretty big, I was worried she would bully them.

I just learned that the lionfish and the moray eel live well together, and since the pet store has both at the moment, I think I may get them to put the two on hold while I set up the tank.

You are right though about the money. The big tank for these guys cost me about $400 (which was cheap cos I got it second hand), the aged salt water to fill it will be several hundred dollars, the moray eel was about $110 and the lionfish was $90. Not to mention food and upkeep.

My daughter had a salt water tank for a long time. It was like a constant science experiment keeping the levels right. I really enjoyed it, but it was VERY expensive. The cost of the fish is nothing compared to setting the tank up. Her star fish had babies ~ they were the cutest, tiniest things ever, until the filter system ate them.

Thanks so much angie, I really needed a laugh. And yes, big aquariums take a LOT of work to maintain, just simply checking levels and keeping them in the right parameters is a big job.

I once found a little zebra danio lodged pretty tightly in the filter tubing. I cut the piece that he was in out, and poked him out with the blunt end of a pencil. I figured it probably wasnt real good for him, and he wouldnt survive, but he was quite a happy little fish and lived for a few more months until the black knife ate him. Every so often I have to replenish the stocks of zebra danios and cardinal tetras in the community tank, cos naughty knifey munches on them. On the plus side, I rarely have to feed him lol

I am a fish killer. I don't mean to be, but I stopped trying to keep them when I realized that I was depleting the fish population.

My son has had a goldfish, Ike, for several months now. I got Ike a new home for Christmas, bigger and better lit. Steven says that Ike is very happy and was wanting a friend. He had a fantail goldfish but Steven said he just kept bumping into things while Ike took all the food. They have those big, buggy eyes.

This type will get to about 17inches (43cm) but you do get dwarf varieties as well. I like big fish though.

I don't blame you Keren what a beauty ..

Every once and a while I get the urge to get a huge tank and stock it with as many unusual and colorful fish that I can find, but everytime three things seem to stop me.
1) husband
2) the price
3) the fact that my family and some of my city/acreage friends already think I am a little strange with all the pets and animals I have around :roll:

I haven't kept tropical fish in a serious way since I left school, I need to start again, not enough hobbies! I kept African killifish for many years, untill I left Zim, they are almost indestructable! and if you do lose them, you just re-hydrate the next batch of eggs to get them to hatch.

I used to have two of these fish not in the same tank. When I was feeling real bad I used put the two tanks next to each other or put a mirror in front of the tank and see them get there heckles up, these things will fight to the death if placed in the same body of water. Here they are also know a scorpion fish. When changing the water and adding minerals, removing the fish from the tank was a delicate operation as those spines can pack a punch, if you have a bad heart or are very young, you could die from one of those stings. I left them with my first husband when we divorced, as I did not trust my daughter to keep her hand out of the tanks.
