Before anyone gets any ideas about me working so hard that I broke my shovel, I didn't and don't. This old shovel has been bouncing around in the back of my pickup for 3 years. It has come in handy for a lot of things. This morning me and the puppy were driving out the driveway to go the post office. There was a big rattle snake stretched out in the driveway. I grabbed the shovel out of the back of the pickup and went into attack mode. About the second swing at the snake my old shovel handle broke. I guess it was just too old to withstand the pressure. But it was still long enough to use to kill the snake. Eleven rattles and a button. He was over 3 feet long. Now I need to drive to town and get a new shovel.
The snakes rattles were wet. He had been down in the irrigation ditch getting a drink of water. One last drink for the condemned snake.
