Have wheat ready to cut for hay, it's 24" tall and thick & in the boot stage. Just woundering what it might make in lbs. per acre? It will be bailed with a 4x5 Vermeer with net wrap. Thanks

I would say approximately 2.5 tons per acre we had rye last yr that was over 6ft tall and it made a lil over 5.5 tons per acre

Do you bale wheat every yr or is this the first time
This is the first time. It's not but 13 acres. I planted it as a backup for my heifers this winter but didn't have to graze it so I fertilized and sprayed it and will see how it is for hay.

will make good hay we always try to bale when it is in the dough stage at the latest

I prefer to bale when it is in the milk stage but weather doesn't always allow for that so I have to wait a little longer

Don't let it cure to long after being cut because it can over cure very quick

you cant go wrong baling that wheat for hay.its real good feed.you should make 80 bales or better on the topside.an bale it in the next week if you can get it dry.
