My birthday, just a few days ago, puts me at 47. Grandpa ran dairy, my dad didn't want no part in cows after being born into it. I now sell butcher beef. Currently with 33 head. Dad likes helping work them but that is.

I turned 70 last October. I run a small cow/calf operation on 142 acres (2 places but close together). I am generation 4 to own these properties from mothers side of family. Properties purchased from mother in '99 and uncle's estate in '08.
I have my share of aches and pains but am still able to work them albeit a bit slower. Bad back and bad neck, but I haven't had any replacement parts put in yet.
I am starting to think about turning cow operation over to someone some day, not sure when/how right now.

She. My youngest daughter.
Those were plastic mulch-covered raised beds, the year we grew CBD/floral hemp.
Had to go back, after harvest, and remove the mulch and driptape.
3 consecutive years of risking those fields and planting wheat/rye, and I still haven't gotten all those humps smoothed out

I'll be 63 next month, I got in trouble in the 3rd grade my teacher had me by the ear giving me heck. She told me I'd never amount to anything but an alcoholic and a construction worker!!

Just turned 50 this year. Got into the cattle business late in life. Bought my first bottle calf in 2016. Was always into horses but went to cattle auction with my dad and said hey I can make money on those. I always wanted to be a cowgirl but now I’m a cow girl😂
I just turned 61 and I must of had the same teacher !!

I will be 73 in March- and my son and I run 60 registered black angus cattle. Last couple of years have been quite the strain with a bad drought. Hoping the snow we have now breaks that. I also own a small restaurant/bar/casion (DB's Bar and Casino) in Glasgow Mt that my wife and daughter run. I still handle the feeding and a lot of the marketing of the cattle- while a lot of the heavy work like fencing and any building/repair work has to be done by my son.

I was raised on the beach so there wasn't any room for livestock. I bought my first heifer in '91, Holstein/Hereford cross at 5 months old bott.e raised by 4 little boys up the road . She gave me 12 calves and raised a dozen that weren't hers, made into burger at 16yo. So gentle, my kids would lay on her while she chewed her cud, every kid in the neighborhood milked her at one time or another just because!

I know how you feel. I don't get emotionally attached to my cows, but when I realized I had only one cow left from the ones I inherited from my father I made up my mind she was going to die in my pasture instead of going to the auction barn. And she did.

I buried my first beef cross bottle calf at 12 or 13... she had a 5 mo steer calf on her and just got poor and down and I sat and talked to her then put her down. Buried my old guernsey at 15, I was her 2nd owner... can't bury them all but a couple here and there isn't going to break the bank and it makes me feel like I gave them the best they could have for years of faithful, consistent "service"....

We have our first cow I raised from a 400lb heifer. She's coming with her 8th calf next month. Honestly, she's in the best shape I've ever seen her aside from being a young heifer. Pulled her calf a touch early this last time because that's when I was selling calves.
Wife wants her to stay here til she dies. I'll admit I'm a bit fond of her. She's not a pet. But just a good ol cow. 😌
My buddy that trades a lot told me something the other day.
Cow ain't got no loyalty man. As long as they got food and water, they don't care who's bringing it, or care if they ever see your face again.
Sadly, I think he is mostly right...
