How many pellets?

Planning on implanting calves. Have ralgro and gun. How many pellets? Tried one last year didn't seem to make a difference

Do you do it at birth?

One pull of the trigger in the ear. That puts in 3 or 4 tiny pellets. It makes the calves do better if they have something to eat. Its not a magic bullet that automatically adds 20 lbs. it will give them a boost if they are healthy and gaining weight. There is not an easy way to test to see if it works. Kind of a leap of faith but the the guys that do have a way of doing a controlled test say its the best bang for the buck and will add an additional 10 to 25 lbs to the calf weight all things being equal.

The head teaching vet at the Virginia Tech vet school always told me that he would put it in before it hit the ground except the ears are usually too slimy to hold onto before the cow licks it off.
