Ask you vet. He probably has a preferred ear.... all of our are in the cow's right ear.... tatoo and tag. That leaves a second ear, or as in horses, the upper lip... or is it the lower lip????
> To add another twist to this tale...In Pennsylvania licensed veterinarians are issued ear tags in specific numeric sequence. When an animal is vaccinated with either a killed or live vaccine, cattle owners are issued a 'green' health chart itemizing the innoculation given, ear tag # (to alleviate mis-representation of the animal), tatoo # and dob of the animal along with owner info. This paperwork is normally required if you are selling or showing your cattle at purebred functions. Futhermore, this information is kept on file with the PA Dept. of Agriculture.
