how do you know when it is time for a cow to calve?

showing my ignorance, but how can i tell when my jersey is ready to calve, other than when her udder gets full? yesterday i was noticing a clear discharge from her...wasn't much, but there was some there. her udder is not full yet, but is larger than it has been since i let her dry out in june. she was AI'd around the 20th of april. should be due sometime in january, right? (there shouldn't be any calving problems...this will be her 5th calf).

<p>With a jersey that's had that many calves, you shouldn't have any trouble! Her bag will get very full, and she'll get loose skin around her vulva under her tail. When she gets very close, she'll probably distance herself from the herd, and act uncomfortable. Good luck
