I read about the donkey. This is a last resort. I have broke many cavles from 75 to about 800 pounds and you half to let them get used to you and trust you first. If they dont like the idea of leading then put the halter on them and tie them up for a few hours. And when their not tied up let them drag it on the ground they will step on it and it will pull their head down. This will make their nose very sore. When sore enough they wont want to resist.
Getting a calf to lead can be simple or it can be a nightmare. The most important thing to remember is to show them respect but be stern in all teaching. We have halter broke a couple of different ways, the most effective we have found is to tie them in a grooming chute the first couple of times so as they do not hurt themselves, and this lets them get to know you and you know them. The other is to just tie them up with a halter, and comb them. Depending on temperment you should be able to walk them the second or third time untied. Always remember whether or not you choose to tie them in a chute or to a post, when you work with them when they flinch stay calm, as they are trying to gain your respect, and it has to be you in control at all times. This they will get to know. Hope this helps you out.

Then get in a small enclosed pen and start walking them. Try not to let go because once they get away from you it triples your problem of EVER getting them broke to lead. Make SURE you wear leather gloves when attempting to start breaking them so you won't get a rope burn and NEVER NEVER EVER rape the rope around yourself. MAKE SURE YOU'RE IN A SMALL CONFINED AREA WHEN YOU START. Good Luck!
