How big does a feedlot have to be for say 10 feeder cattle?

Help Support CattleToday:

1) You can hold 10 feeders on a few acres.

2) A three-sided shelter or a wind-fence would be good enough

3) Depends. We always buy our steers between 500 lbs and 600 lbs. You can buy a 100 lbs lower or higher, depending on your feed sources and quality of the feed you got.

What kind of shelter should I provide?
If I buy them in April, what weight should I buy them at?

It don't have ta be real big. Just be preparin yaself for it ta be a MUDDY mess. And not just when it rains, neither. With 10 head it'll be "rainin" most a tha time, if ya catch my drift ;-)

We built them 15ft x 15ft with 9" bunk space per animal. But that is all concrete so we clean pens often.
