I have a question in regards to hooves floundering. I always seem to have them flounder when the cow and/or steer is ready to finish out. I have a hefer now that is bred and her hooves have floundered. What suggestions do you have to help correct this problem? I am not sure what I am doing wrong for this to continue to happen.

bradh81, I think you mean "founder?" Here's an article about hoof problems with cattle that includes founder (laminitis). If you google "founder in cattle," I'm sure you can find more information as well.

Cut back on the starches (grains) and increase the roughage to where you have a minimum 60% roughage 40% grain mix. OR add sodium bicarbonate to the grain mix.
